    heads up

I have a power cut in my area that's planned for 4 Feb for most of the day.

I'll be shutting down my systems on the night of 3 Feb and not bringing them back up until the evening of 4 Feb... all times NZ daylight savings time.

this will impact 1/100 and 1/10 and 4/100

It's the Aurora lines company changing out power poles I think Nick... seems they are coming to the end of their life... it's a royal pain but at least they let impacted residents know a few weeks before hand.

    Hiya!

I remember seeing something about the decaying poles on Fairgo a few years
ago, great that things are being done to fix this! :-)

Don't know about NZ, but over here there is no defined lifespan for a pole - they just test them every few years. If they pass they stay. If they need a stay or other support they put a black slash on them. If they condemn them and they need replacement then they get a red cross (we were never allowed to climb slashed or condemned poles).

Our poles have a tag on them indicating the previous test dates.

Yep that's essentially it, lots of $$ spent over recent years, it's been a lot of work for them, still ongoing.

Yeah here we have tests being done, not sure how often on wooden poles and I guess the concrete ones, it's the wooden ones that are causing concern that present and they get these different coloured tags on them to tell linesmen what do climb and what to treat with extra care etc. before they are replaced ... so similar set up to your comments I think.
