Hi Mystic SysOps,

Does your board offer the ability for your users to generate a web link to download files as an alternative to the "regular" protocols?

I've seen that on some boards where you can elect to have a temporary web download link generated that they can then click on to transfer via HTTP for faster speeds on larger files.

If you have done this, were you able to do it natively in Mystic (I couldn't figure it out based on the documentation) or did you use a mod? If modded, which did you use?

It did, before I upgraded to a49. That was one of the features that seems to have broken with it. The other was if you change the email password for password recovery, it sets it to all caps and kind of breaks that too.

I've been thinking of trying to figure out a way to mod it into the system until he comes back and fixes it; it's been I think 3 years since a49's release? Just looked, about 2 1/2. I figure that's enough time for me to try and figure a mod way to get that working again.

I only even put any thought into it because even though I've got a warning asking people to please tell me what their username and email is so I can do this manually, it hardly ever happens. =\

I'm using the built-in web server in Mystic for this. Although it only supports HTTP, not HTTPS, and Mystic appears to be finicky about source IP addresses, so I haven't been able to use Apache as a reverse proxy in front of it to get HTTPS support that way...

Have a look at this example, intended to be unpacked in your Mystic
directory (remember to edit webroot/www/index.html to e.g. change the redirection URLs there):

https://scbbs.nsupdate.info/files/webroot.zip

It is based on http://www.mysticbbs.com/downloads/prealpha/dlreq.zip but with
a few quirks fixed and a simple layout. (The original files are named *.ORIGINAL alongside the new ones.)

The web root path (e.g. /mystic/webroot/) also needs to be set in Servers --> Configure Servers --> Server Type: HTTP --> Root Path, and Active needs to be set to Yes (of course).

I'd love to see a generic win32 mod that did this... Just copy (and maintain alternatively) the files to the web server directory, spit out a url and
that's all it needs to do!

2oFB HAD this functionality working great when I used Mystic to host my www site; since I've redesigned 20forbeers.com on my own server, it broke - and I need to get it fixed... like I need to fix 1oo other stupid issues. OMFG.

I created the webroot under my c:\mystic folder and copied over the www and cfg folders from the zip you provided. Updated the index.html to redirect to my web site, created the HTTP server in mystic config and enabled it.

But when I go to a file on my board and try to download it, I don't see an option to download via web. It just lists the typical retro protocols like Y/Zmodem etc.

Pretty sure it's FTP and not HTTP. This is from the Mystic wiki for 1.12a39 four years ago. I didn't see any other mention of it on the wiki:

+ Mystic now has a new feature which can be enabled in the File Base Settings
called "Download FTP". When this is enabled to Yes, Mystic will ask the
user if they'd like to download their queued files via an FTP link instead
of using a file transfer protocol.

The FTP link will contain a virtual directory that contains all of the
files in their batch queue, and will expire after 1 hour. The user can
use their web browser or FTP client to connect to the FTP URL and list
and download the files that they queued on the BBS. Access enforcement
and statistical tracking will be applied via the virtual FTP directory
just as it would if the user was downloading the file from the BBS.

This feature requires that Mystic's FTP server is enabled and properly
configured, and that Anonymous FTP access is enabled in the Server
settings. This means proper firewall configuration and valid BBS domain

Four new prompts will go along with this. If you are using the default
prompts you can simply copy over the default.txt to your data directory,
but if you have modified the prompts then you'll need to add these new
prompts into your default.txt and any other themes you use. They are
located in the upgrade.txt or the default.txt from a fresh installation.

An HTTP equivalent will be enabled in a future build.

I could easily do this with my system, but maintenance would be another issue... I could just copy the file to my web server and give the user the URL. Deleting the file after a day would be another matter. We need a door
to do this that would work with any BBS!

Nevermind! I got it working. I didn't realize there was another config area I had to go to to enable it for the File Bases. Once I did that it started working.

Awesome, glad to hear it! I disabled my file areas except for allowing uploads since I moved everything over to my Mystic browser file base mod, so I wasn't sure if I remembered it did have it, but I know it definitely had FTP as an option. Nice!

Ah, yes -- there's another option which needs to be enabled:
Configuration --> File Base Settings --> Download via WEB: Yes
