I'm with you in that ketchup is okay. I just don't like it on my
hotdog nor brat. I just wonder what all the polarization is about?

No ketchup on hot dogs for me. Just mustard. I will put Ketchup on my burgers though. I'm also picky about which ketchup I'll eat but that's a whole other thing :P
I'm pro ketchup. It's part of the "holy trinity" of mustard, relish & ketchup that must go on my hot dogs & hamburgers.
Other things that I eat with ketchup are: Mac & cheese (both home made & KD), french fries & fried eggs.

I like ketchup on many things. But it should not ever be applied to a hotdog. Not. Ever.
Mustard, onions, relish, saurkraut are what go on a hotdog.

I'm curious why not? When I make a hot dog, usually I put both ketchup and mustard on it. But I suppose it depends on what kind of hot dog - normally I do that with what I'd call regular American hot dogs;
however, if it's a bratwurst, Polish sausage, or similar, I'd be apt to not use ketchup, and just mustard, and sometimes also sauerkraut. But
I wouldn't put sauerkraut on a regular American-style hot dog.

I suppose once you cross the border into saurkraut land, the thought of adding ketchup does seem outlandish. I'll grant you that.

I guess it's the sweetness. Hotdogs are "savory" and the condiments I listed (mustard, onions, relish, sauerkraut) seem to complement that. Sweetness does not go well with any of that, in my opinion.
I know it's meaningless, but here are some articles that support that: :-)

Perhaps you don't have it over there, or it goes by another name. It's pretty ubiquitous in Canada. It's just "mac n' cheese" except slimy, poor quality, fluorescent yellow, and yes, comes as a box of noodles with some powdered "cheese".

I thought ketchup on eggs was relatively popular.. I do that sometimes, though usually only scrambled eggs.

Over here in NZ we have some sugary tasteless slop called tomato sauce that everyone likes for some reason. Proper ketchup is far superior.

In the US, I think it is the other way round. Ketchup/catsup is going
to have the added sugar or corn syrup, while tomato sauce is usually thicker and is less sweet.
Apparently Catsup/Ketchup used to be two different condiments. Catsup was more spicy/savory, apparently.
definitely wasn't ketchup as I know it. Savory and with some olive
flavor to it IIRC, not so sweet and vinegary as I'm used to.

Next to Ketchup, it said "Smooshed up tomatoes - IT'S GOOD!"
Didn't know that, but I can definitely see that being a Mr. Gouda's or Grace product. I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm in one of
those shops.
I should have said, yes it was a Grace product. I quite like their "extra hot" pepper sauce. It's not quite hot, but has a nice flavour if you like
A good one for having flavour and not destroying your mouth with
capsaicin like some sauces do. I've tried a few of their others, but
that's the one I keep going back to. It's a step up from Frank's in flavour, but on the same spiciness tier.
My favourite hot sauce, which I haven't had in years, was from Stasis Preserves and had ghost peppers and apple cider vinegar among other ingredients. Lots of heat but also a lot of flavour. They currently
sell a "Ghost Chili" sauce which I think is the same thing - but it's
sold out on their Shopify store. :(
