This happens in every major city around the world after major victory/losses across Soccer, Baseball, Football, ...
The NYC police were quickly activated, and AFAIK, someone got their
jersey ripped off as one of the worst cases.

Most of the cities mentioned in this thread are "major" ones, and most people find that to be unacceptable behavior. Since we are discussing safety in said cities, I would not ignore such outbursts.
