Okay well it wasn't just this one flamer but another one too... these
guys are saying I pretend to be deaf.

So these people who don't know you are claiming something that takes personal knowledge of you to be in any position to make ANY claim, eh?

I actually had a fantasy not long ago of what it might be like to do
that. To actually be hearing but pretend not to be. What would that be like!? Gosh ... A friend of mine said I should write a book. Maybe
about a woman who spent her whole life pretending to be deaf!?

That would be weird. Should it a comedy or a horror style.

Tragic comedy, or comedic tragedy. . .

You know what folks? IF I was not deaf. I'd not need Fidonet.
In fact it is BECAUSE I am deaf, I am here at all.

So you SAY, but now I have to wonder. . .

    Because I care,

He has to be very low to do something like that. I mean low in the
way of having so little to do that he has to make things up. That is
sad. Very sad. But equally stupid. I do realize he was just
pushing buttons. Strange though that I'm not even THERE. Someone told
me via email and explained he wanted to see if anyone came to my
defense. Well why should they ? Because they know he's just looking
for an argument about something and someone they know even
    less about than he does.

It's like declaring somebody you picked out of the phone book pretends (whatever) hoping someone will challenge you to prove it.

LOL... yeah, I have to sort that part out! :)

    Why? Why do you wonder?

The only reason I found out about FIDO at all was at the
recommendation of a 'bbs person' whom I met personally because of my
hearing loss. The only mistake I made is letting it be known. Because
there are so many fakers out there, there's no way to know who is
faking and who isn't. So it is best not to say anything unless the
topic comes up as it does here in this particular echo.

The bbs person *("Sunny") I mentioned started BBSin'g the same time
I did. We had never heard of Fido at that time. (1994; a local dial up Binghamgton, NY bbs)

The only reason SHE went on that BBS is to play games. Trivial Pursuit
had teleconference built in and was Immensely Popular. We had a few
forms too. The only reason I got started with BBSin'g at all was out
of cariosity. MY hubby was attending the comp sci curriculum at Bingo
U (Binghamton University) and used the BBS (student run) to access
the Internet (that is until access was removed.. sigh.) He introduced
it to me to chat online. THat is how I got started. :)

It was a shock to me to find out hearing people use it too.. kinda
dumb of me I know but at the time for a wee bit, I didn't realize
they'd bother when talking is after all so much easier. ((Which is why
so many WON'T even do email, much less IM's.

The truth is people use the internet for a variety of reasons, not all
: simply wanting to "talk". It is they who tend to spoil it for the
rest of us- but then we don't have to let that happen.
