• Increasingly worse news

The US economy is growing, and yet we're seeing increasingly worse news. Agriculture is struggling. Local businesses are struggling. Christmas shopping is jeopardized because imports from China have been disrupted; this could cost retail chains their profits. Local banks, heavily burdened with loans to local businesses, are now in dire straits.

In short, things aren't going well for the US inland.

    Where then?

Currently, growth is almost entirely driven by investments from the 20 largest companies in the US. Their hundreds of billions in investments are distorting the overall picture.

Perhaps this is a good thing, because as long as we don't all believe in a depression, the fairy tale can persist. If everyone loses their composure, things could go terribly wrong. Consumers would stop buying expensive goods, and suddenly everything would dry up. The economy is made up of money that circulates, generating taxes and profits. If consumers go on strike, there would be panic, and the balance would be lost.

So soon, a lot of money will be pumped into the economy to give the impression that there's still plenty of money around. Maybe we'll fall for it again.
