It's a funny historical "bug", because looking at many SEEN-BYs you have to guess which zone (of the four) it is now. HptTree seems to default everything to z2.

My fidotest robot strips the zone because of this. Someone should make hpttree to search the nodelist for the correct zone. ;)

Exactly, it has a notion of home zone. FTN is a pretty dated and legacy system with some workarounds here and there to overcome the limitations and have a backwards compatibility with the DOS software from late 80x, early 90x.

PATH and SEEN-BY keywords, not really kludges even, have been stuck with 2D-address schema since the introduction of FTS-4 back in 86-87.

When IP took over the world, the zonegate guys became obsolete cause you just cannot control the amount of cross zone links sysop could establish. I really appreciate the decision made at some point to have network numbers unique across all zones.

    Best Regards, Nil

Hm... They are, indeed. Funny I haven't noticed that before.
There is 1:220, but we can't have 1:221 and 2:221 on the same list. :-)

Very true. I have zero FNT peering with Z3, so my view of world is limited but still a bit wider than the original post.

BTW, we can fix it by establishing a binkp link. if you are interested, netmail me the session/pkt/areafix pwd.

Or Z1, apparently, since all of the above quoted links are Z1.. starting with my own. :(

Actually, you are right again. There is a bug in husky hpttree utility. It treats 2D PATH addresses as if they were belonging to your default/home zone number. The improvement could be that hpttree would parse out the real zone number from the origin line.

    Even so, 633/280 is a zone 3 system. %-)

I doubt that would fix the issue, if the software is lacking in knowing other zones.

Easiest fix would be to print a tree without zone numbers.
