• FidoMail Mobile 0.1.5+84 - message font and size, pinned header, NNTP

From Dmitry Protasoff@2:5001/100 to All on Fri Sep 11 21:08:51 2026
    Hello All!

What is new in FidoMail Mobile 0.1.5+84 (and in 0.1.4+82, which
went to the site without an announcement):

    Reader:

    - The message text now has its own size. Settings -> Look has two
steppers: "List and header text size" (the old setting) and a new
"Message text size". The new one follows the old size until you
set it yourself, and a link button next to the new stepper puts it
    back in step.
    - A font for the message text: Settings -> Look -> "Message font".
The bundled JetBrains Mono stays the default; the alternatives are
the system's monospace font, the system's proportional font, or a
font family typed in by name. The preview under the setting shows
a line of a pseudographics table, and if the chosen font cannot
draw it in one piece, it says so: "This font shears tables and
ASCII art". Lists, the header and ANSI art keep the bundled font.
    - Settings -> Reading -> "Keep the message header in view": the
Date/From/To/Subj block stays put while the text scrolls under it.
    Off by default.
    - The "Area:" line is gone from the header inside an echo, where it
only repeated the title. It stays in Starred, Personal and filter
groups, where it tells you which echo a message came from.
    - Fixed: "Connecting..." under a node's name could stay there after
the session had long finished and delivered its mail.

    Mail exchange:

    - Reading news from an InterSquish node over NNTP now works. The
server answers LISTGROUP with a list of all its echoes and quietly
switches to another echo in the process; every article request
then came back "no such article". FidoMail now notices this,
reselects the echo and stops asking that server for LISTGROUP.
The "Newsgroups on the server" list also shows article counts on
such nodes and says "Fetching the list from the server" while it
waits - a big list takes about half a minute.
    - With "Connect over" set to "Automatic", IPv6 is tried first
whenever the host has an IPv6 address. Before, the order came from
the device, and on some phones that meant IPv4 every time. The
mail activity log now shows what the node's name resolved to and
in which order the addresses will be tried, before the first
connect; and when a connection fails or times out, it lists every
address it tried, with the protocol family and the reason.
    - Desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux): scheduled mail exchange no longer
stops while the window is minimized, hidden or completely covered
    by another window.
    - The mail activity log now says which running copy of FidoMail
holds the lock when an exchange is skipped because of it, and when
that lock expires; and it says plainly when no session password is
    configured instead of printing "***".
    - Fixed: ANSI art banners spaced out with cursor-forward sequences
or tabs were measured too narrow, so every second line was glued
    onto the one above.

Tommi, too bad I don't have millions of pounds in cash for hiring a testing team, otherwise I would have to hire you (and only you) because you've tested everything around! ;)

    See you,
