• FidoMail Mobile 0.1.0+24 released - text styles and inline images

From Dmitry Protasoff@2:5001/100 to All on Wed Aug 19 00:55:33 2026
    Hello All!

FidoMail Mobile 0.1.0+24 is out with two reader features:

    * Stylecodes now render. The classic FidoNet text markup - *bold*,
/italic/, _underline_ and #reverse# - is styled right in the
message view, following the same grammar GoldED uses: multi-word
spans, combined marks (*/both/*), Cyrillic text. The markers stay
visible, so what you see is still exactly what was written.
uuencoded payloads, tearlines, origin and tagline lines are left
alone, and a URL always beats markup (http://host/a_b_c stays a
link). Always on - there is nothing to configure.

    * Show images inline (Settings, off by default). When enabled,
UUE-attached images preview right in the message, and image links
(png/jpg/gif/webp/bmp) are fetched and shown under the link -
capped at 10 MB with a timeout; tap opens the zoomable viewer
with Save. Off by default on purpose: fetching a linked image
discloses your address to the image host the moment the message
opens. While off, nothing is ever fetched and UUE images show as
    attachment cards.

Download (Android APK + macOS): https://fidomail.5001.ru
Installed Android copies: About -> Check for updates.

in NNTP mode it would be nice to read the X-Comment-To: line and use it instead of showing "All". :)

I wasn't even sure it's working with other NNTP server, than FidoMail :)

Added X-Comment-To and also charset selection if NNTP server is not UTF-8 capable (but I don't have any fidonet-oriented NNTP server to test and I don't have plan to implement full-scale Usenet client at the moment).

Sorry, I've wrote this message several days ago and forgot to send it!

However, there is a small problem with my "real" nntp server running WendzelNNTPd. All the newsgroups there are in lowercase, but Fidomail wants to create groups UPPERCASE. I think this ok for ftn echos, but maybe not in nntp.

    Agree. Fixed in new release:

But: "An NNTP group already added in uppercase should be deleted and re-added in the server's spelling".

    A couple suggestions:

    - in the browse server list, display the number of messages of each group.

    - when you subscribe to a group, FidoMail downloads all the posts in the group, and after that, it applies the default or group settings for the maximum of messages. It would be nice if it only downloaded that maximum number of most recent posts.
    (This is how HotdogEd-NNTP does.)
