Subject: EMPIRE is running again - and it now links boards together

Hello all,

If you remember EMPIRE, you probably remember it from a C-Net Amiga
board sometime in the early 90s. Crazy Cad wrote it in 1990: raise an
army, work the markets, tax the peasants, and go take your neighbour's
land off him. It is the sort of door you check every day for a month
and then find you have been playing for a year.

It is running again on Reign of Fire, and it has had a serious year of
work done to it.

WHAT IS NEW

* Live duels. If another caller is on a second node at the same time
as you, you fight them there and then - node to node, in real
time, both of you watching it happen. That did not exist before.

* Challenges that cannot be farmed. Not there when someone comes
looking for you? They leave a challenge instead. Your stats are
frozen at the moment it is thrown down, so nobody can call you
out, go away and level up for a week, and then collect.

* The InterBBS League. This is the part I am most pleased with.
Rulers on every linked C-Net/5 board appear in one table, with
live standings on the web:

Right now that table reads 30 rulers and 147,425 acres held, all
of it from one board, because Reign of Fire is the first one in.
That is the honest picture. The plumbing is built and running -
what it needs now is a second board to play against.

FOR PLAYERS

Just call in and play. Nothing to sign up for, no FTN membership, no
fee - log on, type EMP at the Main> prompt, and you are a ruler.

IPv6 works on all of them. The board is a real Amiga running C-Net/5
Amiga Pro, and every bit of Empire - the game, the duels, the league
link - runs on the Amiga itself. No PC doing the work behind a
curtain.

FOR SYSOPS

If you run a C-Net/5 Amiga board, you can join the league. You need a
board ID and a key, and they are free - mail me and I will send them
over, along with the archive and the setup notes. You do NOT need to
be on FidoNet or any other network to take part; the league talks over
plain HTTP, so there is nothing to route.
