Have not seen any traffic here in a long time. Any one out there? The area is still connected.
I just found this and I'm wondering about the thoughts of the hobby.
Is it a hobby?
If you are speaking about BBSing I think of it as a hobby.
Fidonet (and other nets) are also a hobby. It was designed and run by hobbyists
for the most part.
I just think at one point it wasn't just a hobby, it was some people's business.
I think some businesses have used BBS or FTN technology but BBSing and Fidonet
have always been a hobby for me. I have never made money from it. Never wanted
or expected too.
I don't think it currently has a market for income today, but can't
it be used for something more than links to none bbs systems?
BBS and/or ftn technology could be used by a business but I doubt anyone ever
made much money from it.
Questions make more questions most of the time.
Seth Able did make money from his LORD door game (in the early days) although I
think he came upon success unexpectedly. I don't know where he is today.
What a simple, yet awesome door he created. There are a few stories like his.
RemoteAccess, FrontDoor and FastEcho had some amount of commercial success, and
there are others like that as well.
But for me BBSing has always simply been a hobby.
