• chksetup.js output

From hax0r@VERT to All on Fri Apr 24 19:42:26 2026
OK, so base don advice I have run chksetup.js and it is report that every user has a disallowed name (including me!)

Also, it has a password gripe for every single user as well, either length, no password set (how is that even possible), or a disallowed password.

I think both of these check may be picking up users that are not actually in the userfile anymore and may have been purged.

Also getting these errors and could use a hand in figuring out how to fix them:

    Invoking: check_bbs_list
    !!BBS NOT FOUND: hAx0rs palace
    Invoking: check_syncdata
!SYNCDATA sub-board could not be found in message area configuration
    Invoking: check_imsg_list
!hAx0rs palace is not listed in C:\sbbs\ctrl\sbbsimsg.lst
    ...
    Invoking: check_sockopts_ini
    !C:\sbbs\ctrl\sockopts.ini has SNDBUF set
    !C:\sbbs\ctrl\sockopts.ini has RCVBUF set

Wow. Are new users having any issues registering? What's in your text/name.can file?

Also, it has a password gripe for every single user as well, either length, no password set (how is that even possible), or a disallowed password.

Similarlly, what's in your text/password.can file? The stock password.can file is pretty massive, but it doesn't contain any wildcards. Check the userbase to see if the user has a password or not - if they don't have a password, that definitely raises the question: when and how was the account created to begin? It is possible for the sysop to create user accounts with no password (e.g. the "Guest" account), but generally not possible for remote users to do so. As for the password length, it's possible your current minimum password length configured in SCFG->System->Security is longer than what used to be the hard-coded minimum password length (4, I think it was).

I think both of these check may be picking up users that are not actually in the userfile anymore and may have been purged.

That would be weird. Have you checked?

Also getting these errors and could use a hand in figuring out how to fix them:

    Invoking: check_bbs_list
    !!BBS NOT FOUND: hAx0rs palace

Looks like your BBS is spelled differently in the distributed Synchronet BBS list (data/sbbslist.json):
    "name": "haxorz palace"

    Invoking: check_syncdata
!SYNCDATA sub-board could not be found in message area configuration

What's the name or internal code of your DOVE-Net SYNCDATA echo?

    Invoking: check_imsg_list
!hAx0rs palace is not listed in C:\sbbs\ctrl\sbbsimsg.lst

If you're not in the SBBS List (correctly) you can't be in the instant message list either.

    ...
    Invoking: check_sockopts_ini
    !C:\sbbs\ctrl\sockopts.ini has SNDBUF set
    !C:\sbbs\ctrl\sockopts.ini has RCVBUF set

Just remove those - it's better to not set them to explicit values unless you have a very good reason to do so.

the update script will also screw up if the system is not in sbbs\
i updated one that was in c:\synchronet and it didn't work out well.

i also set the environment in the Os.

If you're referring update.js, it's been tested in many installs that don't have "sbbs" anywhere in their path.

i updated one that was in c:\synchronet and it didn't work out well.

    What happened?

i also set the environment in the Os.

    Okay. But what happened?

i can make you a video of it not working if you want it.

    Okay. But what happened?

Like i said, The update scripts wouldn't work correctly.
I had to change everything to sbbs\ and then change it back later.

I deleted the bbs and put it back on and the updater worked.
maybe before it was a fluke. i am on a win8 vm like the sysop's system.
i'm doing a restore on the os and seeing if it will do it again.

i'm pretty sure i typed in the synchronet/ path instead of letting it do
sbbs/ but that's possible too. mabye i screwed up. i work really fast and i type very fast.

You know phil has actually caught bugs and issues. You have not.
you sit around in your circle jerks and make shitty comments. meanwhile you have a stock bbs and don't do anything.
