Since the holidays are upon us, is anybody doing anything
different? Are you scaling down your gifts for christmas?

I noticed that turkey prices were quite high but then they dropped.

For christmas i'm going to suggest to all the adults we scale back on gifts
to eachother and focus on the kids because times are tough. I'm making decent amount of money right now due to overtime and a raise but not everyone else is.

I think some of these stores are being greedy and it's backfiring.
    Still, the world sucks.

Nope. But we were never big spenders for Christmas anyway.

No. The stores are trying to survive. I expect to see a good number of retailers (even big ones) going out of business early next year.

    Still, the world sucks.

major retailers are reporting more profit.

I am not downscaling my gift plans, but changing scope.

Say, in other years I would try to plan for gifts people would like. Now I wantto plan for things that are useful.

ie. my father would like a new watch, but he already has one that is serviceable, so maybe some cooking gear will do best since he lacks some.

I am sure you get the idea.

Indeed but, since COVID, they *really* are not doing well -- if they are
    still even around.

if they arent doing well then maybe it's time to give up the hobby.
any mom and pop store i've seen in my entire lifetime has expensive older stock. hardwares stores are the worst. you get that shit AND you get a clown with an opinion.
