lol.. this is the bbs world.. we are all already boomers, or well on our way, but most of this type of conversation was going on when we were kids back in the 90's too :) A lot of us just have not "Evolved" beyond that :-)

i mean, technically boomers were the generation before us... i just see more and more of us acting more like them. i think a lot of that "this kind of conversation was happening back in the 90s" thing was the literal boomers. i remember being asked to call into a radio show by a "tech talk" type of guy... we were talking about viruses, hacking, all of the things a lot of us were doing back then, and an older man called in.

during his call-in and the discussion with myself, the host, and the man he said, "i think you should be publicly maimed", based on what he was hearing us talk about. he had no concept of what the point of hacking or our discussion was.

anyway this is already getting long. during that call there was mention of his handle... and low-and-behold, i started noticing posts of his after seeing his name. a lot of the things i see people posting now are pretty much the same things he was posting then.

i guess i just dont understand how so many people never rose above that type of thinking...or how so many people fall into it as they age.

    Welcome!

    thanks much!

We are living in rough, shitty times. During covid the whole world pretty much went crazy. I could go on for a long time about whats wrong with the world and i don't even pay attention to the news most of the time. of course people are going to be grumpy. if you're not grumpy, you're dumb. They probably didn't call it anything because they weren't obsessed with labels other than commie and homo.

One thing that is new to me is apparently according to wikipedia the generation before boomers were called 'the silent generation'. 99% of the books referenced are pretty new, though.

Like the folks who drove by a house up the street to wave and wish a kid Happy Birthday, or the teachers who paraded through neighborhoods to wish their students a happy summer break. It was all done with distancing but was really nice.

i saw people standing on their doorsteps banging pots and pans. that stuff seemed kinda crazy. I know a person that was doing that. People felt helpless so they needed something to do.

There was other stuff like that in other places that was on the news that gave you a sense that we were treating others well.

Then came Summer and people in some areas went nuts.

During covid i saw things i never saw in my entire life. My car was broken into for the first time. People were riotting in my city.

I drove home from work and i saw a car on fire and the flames were like 20 feet in the air. it was like madmax. There was a paper dispenser like one from target or something and it was sitting in the front lawn. it had a full roll of paper in it. Target is about 10 mins away. Why is it in my front yard?

I was going to board up my windows. I was told to take down my american flags outside. People were putting up black lives matter signs so their houses didn't get vandalized or burnt down. People were standing in the middle of highways and making people late for work. I knew 3 people who killed themselves and atleast 5 other people who died of covid.

Honestly I think we need a revolution and we need to tear out and replace our govt. people need to be held accountable. They do NOT have our best intrests in mind.

It's like schoolyard bullying. I'd expect that kind of behavior from middle school kids & younger, and it's sad to see a grown adult behave this way. When I see an adult behave that way, I want to just roll my eyes and move on. If it's an attempt at humor, it's not funny.

That'd be a good script to have. They hard-core insider trade.

What app automatically buys Nancy Pelosi stocks?
Autopilot enables you to mimic the publicly disclosed trades of politicians including:
Nancy Pelosi, a House Representative from California and former Speaker of the House.
Dan Crenshaw, a House Representative from Texas.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a House Representative from Florida.

BBSing in the 80s, for some reason I don't know, it was considered cool to put 'k' in front of words, like k-rad, or replace 'c' with 'k' as in "kool". "rad" is short for radical (good) of course, so k-rad is just extra good.

look into how amazon survived in the 2000's. it's pretty interesting. their cfo warned jeff that there here bad times coming. They sold convertable bonds to foreign investors to get a big chunk of money to weather it out. It looked bad on paper but got them the real cash they needed.

There's a lot of misinformation out there now and from that period. bloomberg said it was done in 2000 to help expand and invest in other online companies.
    It was to survive.

martha stewart went to prison for insider trading.

"One of the most popular features is the Pelosi Tracker, which allows users to copy the top ten stock picks made by Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul. Your portfolio buys when he buys and sells when he sells-as soon as she reports the trades, within the forty-five days required by law. The tracker was up forty-five per cent last year. (A spokesman for Pelosi said that she doesn't own any stocks and isn't involved in any of her husband's transactions.) Other portfolios offered by Autopilot: Buffett (up ten per cent), Bill Ackman (up eighteen), and Representative Dan Crenshaw, of Texas (up forty-one)."

    Wow, what a concept!!!

i screwed up 2 logitech g6 keyboards [awesome keyboards] by
cleaning them. so i'm more careful now. i use a horsehair brush
attachment on my vac. still it gets cruddy. and we also have
cats so there's cat hair everywhere.

whatever, she did it. they dismissed the charge.
    it's all related.

Following a six-week trial in early 2004, Stewart was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction and two counts of lying to federal investigators. However, the most serious criminal charge against her - securities fraud - was previously dismissed by the judge."
