• Self check out

One thing I've wondered about - People complain because they don't like self-ch
ckouts at the store, yet people like to pump their own gas for their car and of
en don't like needing a gas station attendant. Seems a bit contradictory.

I don't get that, either. I prefer to self check because I usually don't
have that many items. In my case, the comparison to pumping gas checks out.

OTOH, if I was buying groceries for a family, the comparison may not be correct. I'd have a whole lot of items and even if I don't mind ringing
them up, the self check lanes don't usually have a lot of room on the
counter and they complain (and pause for assistance) if you try to remove already bagged items to get them out of the way. I'd probably be pretty
pissed off about it, especially if there were few/no other lanes open.

What pisses me off is that my Kroger store has two sets of self-check
lanes, for a total of 10 or 11. However, whenever I am in that store, one whole bank is *always* closed, leaving only 5 open. Meanwhile, they will
only have 1 regular lane open, and the lines for both are long.

I don't get it, it is self-check and I haven't taken the day off so why
can't I use one of the other 5 or 6 machines? It isn't like they don't
have workers milling about that can't oversee the second bank.

As an aside, I think a lot of the social media posts complaining about self-check originate with bots and then get shared.
