Neat, another Alcatraz. There's an Atari 8bit board called that ;).

Come to think of it, there could very well have been several back in 1991 when I first set up the board.

I have been contemplating changing the name, given the original ansi screens I had with all the Alcatraz history etc are lost to time and unreadable magnetic media.

    Cheers

Oof, that's the worst! Do you still have the media? Maybe you'll meet someone with a Greaseweasel :)

I've got the 3M QIC tapes which hold a whopping 525MB. However I have been unable to get anything to read off them. Just lots of CRC errors trying to access them. :(

Oh wow, sounds like special stuff. Are you sure the drive is still alligned and such? Maybe that's what's causing the read errors?

I can read/write a freshly formatted tape fine so I'm guessing it's the tapes. I have 2 that are readable and 1 that I know I can write too. but as Murphy would have it, the bbs backup is on one of the few I can't seem to get any data off.

I use to keep nightly's (7) and a weekly backup but I think the
original nightly tapes got overwritten a couple of years after I shut it all down. :(

Never the less, I'm having fun rebuilding it. Just need to find more free time to put into drawing up the ANSI screens.

Hope you're having a great week.

    Cheers
