• New Synchronet Doors: $ynthKarT and NBA_JAM - rlogin available too

From Hm Derdoc@21:2/139 to All on Tue Jan 20 20:08:31 2026
We've got a couple brand spanking new BBS Doors down at futureland.today and who knows, they might knock your socks off, let me tell you a bit about them and how you can try them out and/or connect them to your BBS.

The newest game is a game called $ynthKarT is a fast paced racing game using Super Scaler techniques like outrun and items from Mario Kart. It's got 16 tracks, each with its own totally unique themes and rendering methods sometimes, from snowy mountains to the beaches, from synthwave holodeck to glitched out, rainbow roads and candy races, these tracks have a lot of variety. High scores are kept for the greatest racers on a per race, lap and circuits. It could be expanded upon greatly game wise, but the game engine is pretty nice, could be made multiplayer, car upgrades all sorts of stuff in a race game, but for now the gameplay isn't more advanced than Mario Kart 64 as far as extra mechanics (no pun intended). The door code for $ynthKarT is "OUTRUN" and can be accessed via rlogin port 4513 on host futureland.today if you want to add it to your board. This game is brand spanking new, I haven't even made a video for it.

The other game I've promoted a bit more, it's an NBA Jam style arcade basketball game with a lot more game mechanics in the form of an RPG mode and various live multiplayer functionalities. Maybe you've seen the hype video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88LFz-8ld4U or not, but definitely could use more players for these RPG Season Modes, I want to play too, but folks need to git gud and start making it part of a daily BBS grind. The videos a pretty good demo, and I've already posted about it here and there, so I'll just say $ynthKarT's animation and gameplay is on par with that and I guess shows I'd make more game mechanics there if I knew what people wanted more of from that game. Anyways, NBA Jam: Legend of The Red Bull Terminal Edition is available with door code "NBA_JAM" at futureland.today via rlogin on port 4513.

If you're a Synchronet sysop looking to install these games on your system, $ynthKarT will be available shortly, or now if you find my repo and compile the typescript. NBA Jam I don't want to fragment player base or release a multiplayer / multi-bbs game that is subject to updates as the first season is a beta test basically.

Or if you just want to check out the games and not install them, swing on by the BBS at futureland.today operating on port 23 for telnet and 4022 for ssh. If you want to create an account via ssh login `ssh -p new@futureland.today` (password: new)

Suggestions and feedback is welcome on the games, I definitely can think of ways to make $ynthKarT a lot deeper, but hopefully catering to people's interests if I spend time on something and not just me farting around on something someone might discover years from now, if ever.

Thanks! It came out much better than I thought it would. And excellent feedback - Quitting is now done via keys that people would expect to Quit, [Q] [X] [ESCAPE] ... The fix is in for that, the previous secret key was "0" (zero). If ya catch any weird stuff LMK, I'll try to nip it in the bud.

    Cheers,
