    Hello Roy!

And when you go for some wood, to make whatever, there is a good
    chance you what some 2x4's.

Unfortunately these days, a 2x4 isn't really a 2x4. To save on wood, the physical dimensions are now 1 5/8" x 3 5/8" although they retain the 2x4 nomenclature.

It is about the same here, a 2x4 is in raw wood, the planed version is
5 mm less on both dimensions.

    Kees

These days houses that are built out of wood use pine and the dimensions
of the 2x4 are .38" smaller than specified.

Apparently the dimensions are for raw fresh cut wood. The final offset dimensions are after the wood is dry, smoothed, and treated.

Searching 2x4 on Wikipedia leads to a fascinating article on the subject of wood. :P

You probably have to add some canned laughter... 8-)

    not for me, thanks!

People like you, with a well above average IQ, are excused. It's mostly people whose first name begins with an 'R', that seem to need the canned laughter.
