Just out of curiosity, why do you continue with this inches shit,

We do it because...we do it. It's just second nature to us. Sort of like Greek
dodging taxes, or Scots eating haggis, or Swedes posting flamebait.

    Lol :)

    Hello Ward,

On Monday December 31 2012 11:10, you wrote to Daryl Stout:

Some Scandinavian countries way back when changed overnight from
left-lane driving to right-line driving. It wasn't the end of the
world. Europe in the late 50-ies or early 60-ies changed overnight
from 110 volt to 220 volt.

I remember when my grandparents in The Hague had 110 Volts when we in Driebergen had 220 Volt.

Now as good as the whole world is on 220 volt.

    Hmmm.... http://tinyurl.com/yaxq8jr

And as an added funny detail, here in the kingdom of metric the sizes
of pipes (water, gas, sewage, ...)

Not here. Water and gas (same pipes) in mm. Standartd values are 12, 15 and 22 mm.

and electricity cables are still calculated in inch.

Standard electricity pipe is labeled 5/8" but it actually is 16 mm.

    Cheers, Michiel

On the contrary, Joe. Metrics were accepted by certain industries and rejected by others. If a company made a product that was to be
    distributed
world-wide, they used the metric system to write their specs. That
    doesn't
mean that they made things with metric materials, such as 19mm bar stock, but instead, their system called out 19.05 and SAE .750 material was
    used.

What I find a bit worrysome is that when you buy an electric tool/appliance here, made here and plug it in overthere, it will work as it was built the correct way. It doesn't matter if it's intended for export or not ... it will just work correct.

When you buy something American made and plug it in here ... chances are fair you'll get fireworks. That has improved over the years with stuff that was built in the East and in Europe.
