    in order of my personal preference for use...

    "I had no choice." 95%+

    Good one.

    "I hadn't any choice." 5%+/-

    "I had not any choice" isn't exactly what I'd use. Not even as a
    poor example.

    that's why i left it with the contraction... "hadn't any" sounds better to me than the other way which is definitely ugly...

    "I hadn't a choice." maybe but unlikely

    It would have been better to choose your examples more carefully.

    it doesn't sound right... with or without the contraction... yuck...

    "I had no choice." or "I did not (didn't) have a choice." would
    have been mine.

    i started to show those as well but didn't because it was not the same contraction...

    They both work much better than 'had not'.

    and "hadn't" can be seen as a shortened form of "did not have" or "didn't have" ;)
